Q. How does mildew affect our exterior? Is it really important to be guaranteed all mildew is removed before repainting?
A. Anyone who lives in the State of Georga can attest to the high humidity. Humidity is what aids in mildew growth. Mildew will cause rapid deterioration of exterior surfaces and coatings if left untreated. If you do not remove all mildew from any surface which is to receive a new coating (paint, stucco, etc.) It can, and will, cause acrylic coatings to not adhere properly, resulting in peeling and blistering.
Q. Is it necessary to use intense and high pressure in order to remove mildew and dirt from most siding surfaces?
A. Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, it causes more harm than good. Pressure washers that produce anywhere from 1500 to 6000 PSI are not made for removing mildew and dirt, but rather to etch steel and stone. Pressure washing can do serious damage to wood (cedar), cement, not to mention roofs and gutters. The bottom line is that chemicals, correctly applied, with adequate rinsing, and no pressure will do the job perfectly.
